BANDUNG - To prepare for the MotoGP event in Mandalika Street Circuit, PT. Angkasa Pura I participated by preparing Lombok International Airport infrastructure, such as expanding the passenger terminal.
In this regard, NSE was entrusted with the terminal expansion design with the concept of "Sense of Lombok" inspired by shapes that are familiar to the people of Lombok. It is hoped that the airport will have an impression, meaning, and significance for the local people of Lombok and tourists who visit Lombok.
The concept of "Sense of Lombok" is embodied in 5 design aspects, namely biographical (historical), spiritual (emotional bonds), narrative (belief), commodified (cognitive values), and ideological (norm values). Both the exterior and interior of the terminal adopt these five design aspects.
Carrying the concept of "Sense of Lombok", the architectural design of Lombok International Airport adopts the form of a barn roof that appears in the fixed bridge area and the landside area. At the same time, the form of the terminal building was adopted from the typical beleq drum shape of Lombok. The 'subahnale' motif appears as a facade element that functions as a decorative and functional element to counteract some of the sun's heat that enters the terminal.
Hence, the interior of Lombok International Airport is inspired by a series of stories about passenger journeys to and from Lombok, starting from the feel of the ocean in the departure/arrival section to the warm earth nuance in the terminal lobby.
As an effort of sustainability and energy efficiency, optimization of natural lighting elements is a consideration in the form of space. For this reason, a ceiling with translucent material was chosen to provide a gap for daylight to enter. It is simply to give a different atmosphere during the day and night.
The blue color is inspired by the clear skies of Lombok and the blue sea of Lombok. The blue color is expected to calm and comfort passengers in this context.
The achievement of spatial aesthetics is carried out by utilizing the potential of the archipelago's culture, in the form of tangible ethnic culture, to convey its "Indonesian" message/identity, such as architectural potential, ornamental variety, and materials as a starting point for form processing in the modern technological approach.
After being developed, according to ap1.co.id, the passenger terminal of Lombok International Airport, with an area of 43,501 m2, can accommodate 7 million passengers per year, double the previous capacity. To increase the convenience of the passengers, the terminal is now equipped with 46 check-in counters and seven boarding gates.
Last February, Lombok International Airport received the arrival of riders and cargo from MotoGP teams who carried out pre-season tests. The activity ran smoothly, supported by the improvement of airport facilities, which NSE had planned, both on the airside such as increasing the carrying capacity and extending the runway, expanding the apron, and the landside, namely the expansion of the passenger terminal.
