BANDUNG - On June 6 2023, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) issued Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 31 of 2023 concerning the Acceleration of Development and Operation of Very Very Important Person (VVIP) Airports for the development of aviation infrastructure and supporting connectivity at IKN.

In order to accelerate the development of VVIP Airport at IKN, Jokowi assigned the Minister of PUPR and the Minister of Transportation to carry out development including engineering design, land preparation, construction implementation, operation, maintenance and funding. Quoting a copy of the document of Presidential Decree Number 31 of 2023, the selection of providers of engineering design consultant services is carried out through direct appointment in the process of procuring government goods/services in accordance with statutory provisions.

NSE as the Airport Design Specialist Consultant was appointed directly by the PUPR Ministry to carry out the Airside Design work of the VVIP (Airway Side) Airport Development. IKN Airport is located in Penajam District, North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province. In general, the entire IKN airport area is 347 Ha with a Runway of 3000 x 45 meters, Taxiway A & B 180 x 30 meters and an Apron of 102,150 m2, as well as the area of the VVIP terminal and VIP of 7,352 m2, capable to accommodate Wide-body Aircraft such as Boeing 777 and Airbus 380. IKN Airport is target to be operate for minimum flight capacity on July 2024 and be fully operational on December 2024.

As stated by President Jokowi at the groundbreaking activity for airport development in the Indonesian capital (01/11/2023), the presence of IKN Airport is considered important because currently activity in the IKN area is increasing.
